Nintendo Wii Video Games + Exercise = Good Health

By F Cheshire

nintendo-wii-video-gamesNintendo Wii video games and good health? In the past video games have been synonymous with a sedentary lifestyle. You know the bad rap video games get from parents who complain that their kids spend too much time playing mind numbing games and not enough time romping around getting physical exercise. Such video game brats grow up to be video game addicted teen agers that spend endless amounts of time into the wee (not wii) hours of the morning practicing their craft. Video game teen agers grow up into couch potato 20 and 30 year olds that many times lack social skills because all of their time is spent playing video games.

Nintendo wii video games change all of this. It has changed the minds of parents, health professionals, doctors and physical therapists around the world? Simply by combining the fun and skill of video games that are played on the TV with the exercising of the actual muscles required to play the games if you were playing them outside and in person.

Imagine if you will, standing at the front of a bowling ball lane. You wipe the sweat from your brow as you decide how you are going to throw the ball to pick up the spare. Your team mates are absolutely quiet as they do not want to break your concentration as you get into the “zone”. You slowly begin to walk, then you drop the ball to your side as you pick up the pace until you release the ball and watch it roll down the lane until it strikes the remaining pins. You not only pick up the “save” but you win the admiration of your team mates as they give you the old “high-five” in recognition of your skills.

A bit far fetched? The Nintendo wii technology really mimics your every move as you see yourself (or your Nintendo self) on the big screen reenact every move you make. Even senior citizens that live in assisted living facilities are enjoying the exercise benefits that wii brings. Perhaps you think of a bunch of old people sitting around in wheel chairs looking completely listless and devoid of life. This assisted living facility has put together wii bowling leagues where many of the team players are actually in wheel chairs. If you think playing wii on your TV is fun, then you need to try it on a 110″ movie screen! Life size virtual sports will make anyone a believer! Why not set the goal of getting in shape, by exercising and losing weight by playing Nintendo wii video games with your family.
